Milkshake mixers are fairly common in Japan. Milkshakes are fairly popular throughout most cultures, as they are a nice, cold treat that is easy to make and enjoy. Therefore, Milkshake Mixers are common because they are an essential component for making milkshakes. In Japan, many fast food restaurants serve milkshakes, further popularizing them, and increasing the demand for Milkshake Mixers. However, portions in Japan are typically smaller than their American countertypes, so milkshake would be smaller as well.
The Milkshake Mixer as a product has significantly increased the popularity of milkshakes in japan, while simultaneously increasing the choices of dessert. In the US, however, Milkshake Mixers are more common, as many people have more room in their homes for large, and potentially unnecessary appliances. This differs from Japan because many homes have limited space due to population density, so some less needed appliances will not be purchase as they are not compact enough for use. Due to this, the American version of the product can be larger and bulkier, but the Japanese version needs to be more compact, and easier to store. To solve this problem, in the prototype, we inserted a hinge at the base, this allows the mixer to bend and lay flat. When the mixer lays flat, it is much easier to store in a limited space such that might be present in a Japanese home.
